How to Stake/Unstake SOL

Staking your SOL through your Wallet is a straightforward process that allows you to earn rewards and contribute to the network's security.

Staking SOL

To stake your SOL, begin by opening your wallet.

Step 1: Locate the Staking Section

Scroll down within your wallet interface until you find the Staking section.

Step 2: View Your Staked SOL (Optional)

If you have previously staked SOL, this section will display your current staked balance.

Step 3: Initiate a New Stake

To begin a new staking operation, tap on the "Add stake" button.

Step 4: Configure Your Stake

You will then be prompted to specify the amount of SOL you wish to stake.

Additionally, you will need to select a validator. Popular choices often include the "Seeker Validator" or the "Solflare Validator". Once you have entered the desired amount and chosen a validator, click on the Stake button to confirm your transaction.

Unstaking SOL

Step 1: Locate Your Staked SOL

Scroll down to the Staking section within your wallet interface. Here, you will see a list of your staked SOL, including the staked amount and the validator for each stake.

Step 2: Select Stake to Unstake

Tap on the specific stake you wish to unstake.

Step 3: Review Details and Choose Unstaking Method

Review the stake details and reward information. You will then be presented with two unstaking options:

  • Normal Unstake: This method typically takes around 2 days and incurs minimal fees.

  • Instant Unstake: This method completes in a few seconds but costs approximately 0.245 SOL. However, fees for Instant Unstake can vary, sometimes requiring up to 0.4 SOL or as little as 0.16 SOL, and generally should not exceed 0.5 SOL. Priority fees may slightly increase the cost but ensure faster transaction settlement.

Minimum SOL Balance Requirements

To successfully unstake SOL, ensure that you have at least 0.7 SOL available in your wallet that is not staked. This balance will cover the necessary transaction fees.

Factors Affecting Fees

The variability in fees is influenced by:

  • Network Traffic: Higher traffic can lead to increased fees.

  • Transaction Complexity: More complex transactions may require higher fees.

Step 4: Confirm Unstaking

Choose your preferred unstaking method. Once confirmed, your SOL will be unstaked and returned to your wallet according to the chosen method's timeline.

Ensure that you have sufficient SOL balance in your wallet to cover transaction fees before confirming.

You are all set! Well done!
